How to Get Back Your Va-Va-Voom!
Step 1 - Get a Haircut.
I have a running joke with my hair stylist. When I go in there every 8-10 weeks or so, he asks, “Okay, what are we doing today my dear?” I give him the details and he says, “Ah- so you just need your Va-Va-Voom back?” and I laugh, “Yes, that’s it!”.
Lately I’ve been feeling a bit like I had lost my va-va-voom….in painting, among other things. I’ve painted a little bit…but not as much as I normally do during a normal year. I HAVE been spending a LOT of time in my garden, doing a bit of “therpautic weeding”, moving large rocks and sticks, planting things, dead-heading other things, making sure every thing stays watered in this very dry summer.
For a while now I’ve been recalling a blog post series I used to write, back in the early 2000s…before Facebook and ‘social media’ became ‘a thing’. I stumbled across one of those posts online a few weeks ago. “Cheer Factor” - was the name of my blog and newsletter series, and I kept it up for TEN years!! It’s hard to dig it up …but here’s a link: https://roxannesteed.blogspot.com/2010/09/ From January 2007 through 2017, I posted paintings VERY frequently…most of these years were during the ‘Daily Painters’ days. I was a part of that original group…and was oil painting at the time.
But, back to the here and now. The byline under “Cheer Factor” was something like - ‘musings on Art and Life’., because one usually affects the other!

Haircuts seem like this physical manifestation of a new start. So here we go. This blog will cover all things in this artist’s life - painting, creativity, food, style, decor…just from my point of view.
If you don’t need a haircut today, skip the bed-head and style it, at least rake a comb through it, or simply indulge in a little self-care today. Make yourself feel like you’re ready for a fresh start…yes, your art is calling you!
