Supplies for Artist as Editor- September Class

Very soon I’ll be starting up my fall class session, and will be introducing some fun new materials to my students. I’ve spent most of this calendar year exploring the wonders of hot-press watercolor paper and I must admit, I’ve enjoyed it greatly.

I’m really LOVING the smoothness of it, in ways that I hadn’t before. But I’ve learned a lot over the years …especially in discerning what matters to me is a style of work that I enjoy.

It’s an ongoing exploration - and I’m looking forward to sharing all of this with my students. My aim is always to help them discover all the elements of working in this medium that brings out that joy and delight in their own work!

In addition to the normal materials of watercolor paint (see my previous blog post on supplies), I’ll be using the following items in this upcoming course:

-Stillman & Birn - zeta series sketchbook, hardcover either 8.5”x5.5” - or 11.5”x8” version. I’ll be using that smaller one for the most part.

-brushes:

-Princeton velvetouch size 10 long round (the bristles are longer than normal, NOT the one with longer handle).

-Silver Ruby Satin size 4 round

-Princeton Art serios 4050 Liner brush size 4

-Pen - Pentel Arts - Hybrid Technica size 0.3mm (get two of these, you don’t want to lose it or run out!

-Faber Castel Graphite Aquarelle #8B pencil

-Paper- a Legion - Lenox Cotton 5”x7” pad of paper (it IS 100% cotton

-Kuretake - Gansai Tambi paints, 24 color set. These are an opaque Japanese watercolor, with such lovely qualities. You need to make their acquaintance!!

Bring what you have, the first week will be pretty basic supplies.
